New Renault Master to deliver greater efficiency in ICE and EV guise

Renault has teased its next-generation Master LCV ahead of its unveiling at the Solutrans motor show this month.

The new Renault Master gets a “redesigned silhouette for greater efficiency”

First launched in 1980 and currently in its third generation, the Master will be heavily overhauled for the new version that’s due on sale in 2024.

It’s already been spotted testing in various hot and extreme cold conditions carrying a camouflage wrap and now Renault has teased its silhouette, “redesigned for greater efficiency”.

As with the current line-up, both ICE and electric versions will be offered, but will benefit from the efficiency improvements from the new ‘Aerovan’.

The brand says the diesel version will offer enhanced fuel economy while the fully electric version will provide consumption savings of 21%. The current model offers a 126-mile range after gaining a larger battery and longer range last year, putting it behind rivals.

A hydrogen version is also believed to be on the cards. Hyvia, a joint venture company between Renault Group and Plug Power focused on hydrogen mobility, already offers the fuel cell-powered Renault Master Van H2-Tech.

Other changes include a new braking system, plus a focus on being 100% connected, including the expected debut of a new infotainment system.

The new-generation Master is also expected to carry over the current short, medium and long wheelbase lengths and three roof heights, as with the current model, which also comes with a LWB version with a long overhang.

The new Master will be unveiled at the Solutrans motor show in Lyon, France, which opens on 21 November 2023.

As with the previous generations, it will be produced at the Batilly plant in France, where the facilities have also been overhauled for new and more efficient operation.

Since the Master first launched, it’s sold more than three million units.
