Order books are open for the new Volkswagen Crafter, complete with an upgraded interior and enhanced equipment.
Priced from £45,660 (incl. VAT) and available in a choice of body sizes, drivetrains and engines, the brand’s large van has been given a comprehensive update to enhance its appeal and bring it in line with the passenger car range.
Tech upgrades deliver a new 10.4-inch colour screen for the infotainment system, complete with App-Connect, an integrated eSIM and mobile online services as part of the We Connect package. Also included is wireless smartphone charging and USB-C connection.
An optional 12.9-inch colour screen is available as part of the Discover Media satellite navigation system, complete with proximity sensor.
The Crafter upgrades also deliver a refreshed dashboard design using the Digital Cockpit instrument cluster seen on the brand’s car line-up and a revised steering wheel. The cabin also benefits from a redesigned and relocated electronic handbrake switch and selector for the optional automatic gearbox, while the controls for the light functions, the heating and ventilation controls and all the air vents have also been revamped for more comfort and greater ease of use.
New standard and optional driver assist systems also make their debut. Standard features include autonomous emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian monitoring, lane keeping, dynamic road sign display, a speed limiter and acoustic park distance control for the rear area. New options include travel assist and emergency assist.
The launch line-up includes Commerce and Commerce Plus trim lines. As standard, there are medium wheelbase with a high roof or long wheelbase with a high roof configurations, while Commerce Plus models are also available with long wheelbase Maxi high roof. Low roof and super high roof options are available to order.
Engines include a 140hp 2.0-litre TDI and six-speed manual gearbox for the front-wheel drive CR30 (3,000kg GVW) models.
The CR35 (3,500kg GVW) adds the option of a 177hp 2.0-litre TDI with either front-wheel drive or 4MOTION four-wheel drive. It’s also available with a 163hp 2.0-litre TDI with rear-wheel drive, which is the sole engine and drivetrain layout of the CR50 (5,000kg GVW) model. Both the CR35 and CR50 are available with an optional eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Deliveries of the new Crafter start from mid-August. Prices for the Crafter Commerce start at £45,660, while the Crafter Commerce Plus is priced from £52,704.
