Nexus Vehicle Rental has published a free guide to provide drivers with advice on how to avoid fines while operating within London’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ).
The firm says some Nexus customers are still falling foul of the rules, which can incur maximum fines of £160 for cars, vans and motorbikes, and £1,000 for lorries, if non-compliant vehicles have not been registered to enter the ULEZ and if subsequent penalties are not paid within 14 days.
In response, the new guide – launched to coincide with the two-year countdown (25 October 2021) to the planned ULEZ expansion, when it will stretch to the North and South Circular roads – alerts drivers to the impending extension to the zone and highlights how vehicles can be registered to operate within the ULEZ without facing a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
David Brennan, CEO at Nexus Vehicle Rental, said: “Whilst we can look to London for championing cleaner air in UK cities, we cannot ignore the fact many of our business customers are still incurring expensive fines due to a lack of awareness of ULEZ regulations.
“We salute the Mayor’s effort for taking the most polluting vehicles off our roads but recognise the new regulations are particularly impacting the operational efficiency of logistics fleets using older vans and HGVs in central London. Many of these fleets require a time-critical mobility solution and haven’t had the opportunity to upgrade their vehicles.”
The new publication is the latest in Nexus’ Glovebox Guide series, which also includes guidance on areas including private parking fines, driving down fleet costs and driver safety.
