NHS Highlands Estates invests in Volkswagen off-road emergency vehicles

NHS Highland Estates covers over 10,000 square miles of rugged mountain terrain and is responsible for maintaining healthcare facilities throughout remote Scottish regions.

The new models will work alongside the organisations’ current fleet of Caddy C20, Caddy C20 Maxi, Caddy C20 Kombi and Transporters.

Among the new models being added to the NHS Highland Estates fleet are an Amarok pick-up and a Transporter 4MOTION – both of which were selected for their off-road ability. Both models feature four-wheel drive, and have been designed and engineered specifically for the kind of terrain that NHS Highland Estates drivers experience on a daily basis.

Using Volkswagen’s Service Promise, NHS Highland Estates will be guaranteed a like-for-like replacement vehicle should the unforeseen happen – a crucial factor given the organisation’s need for four-wheel drive.

The healthcare service has also opted for BlueMotion Technology throughout the fleet where possible, to increase fuel-efficiency and produce low CO2 emissions to help cut fuel costs and reduce its carbon footprint.

‘The work of NHS Highland Estates is vital to servicing healthcare facilities throughout some of the remotest areas of Scotland,’ commented Magnus Bain, maintenance manager for NHS Highland Estates.

‘When looking to source new vehicles for our fleet, reliability and efficiency were of great importance, and taking into account value for money, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles emerged as the number one choice.’
