Order books open for new Volkswagen Amarok

The new Volkswagen Amarok is on sale, delivering more space, comfort and quality than before to target premium pickup customers.

Prices for the new Amarok start from £33,000 and the 5+ Promise enhanced warranty and service plan comes as standard

The second generation arrives more than three years after the original ended production and is priced from £33,000.

It’s available solely as a double cab, as with the first model, and in a choice of four trim levels.

All come as standard with the 5+ Promise enhanced warranty and service plan, which includes five services, five years’ warranty and five years’ roadside assistance, said to be worth £2,300 if purchased separately. Services include three oil changes, two oil change and inspection services plus three MOTs, while the warranty is extended from the standard three years and runs up to 200,000km or 124,000 miles. The roadside assistance has also been extended from the standard three.

The new Amarok draws on the partnership between Volkswagen and Ford and uses the same chassis and engines as the new Ford Ranger but with bespoke Volkswagen design. Its new front-end stands out with bold horizontal upper radiator grille crossbars, while the rear end is distinguished by new C-shaped rear lights.

Providing greater length and a longer wheelbase, the new Amarok delivers more room in the cab, while shorter overhangs improve the off-road ability. The cargo bed can accommodate a sideways loaded Euro pallet while enabling a payload of up to 1.113 tonnes.

Engines include a pair of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesels, delivering 170hp or 205hp outputs, and a 240hp 3.0-litre V6 developed by Ford.

Trims span Life, Style, PanAmericana and Aventura designations.

Life comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, colour-keyed front bumper, exterior mirrors and handles, LED fog lights, heated exterior mirrors with surround lighting, eight-way adjustable seats, leather-covered multifunction steering wheel, electronic parking brake, integrated central locking for the tailgate, rain and light sensor, automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror and front/rear Park Distance Control.

Style ups the alloys to 18 inches and gains a rear bumper with chrome styling, load compartment lining and a 12V socket, LED matrix headlights, a 12.3-inch driver display, 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, 0-way driver and passenger front seats, contactless charging, 2-zone air-con, 230V socket on centre console and USB port on interior mirror, plus keyless start. It also gains new driver assist systems that include ACC, lane assist, side assist, rear traffic alert, tyre pressure monitoring, dynamic road sign display.

The lifestyle-focused PanAmericana switches to all-black 18-inch alloys, LED tail-light clusters, LED load area lighting, X-design front bumper, black detailing for the front bar and rear bumper, 10-way electric seats, leather upholstery and heated seats, leather-look dash panel and upper door sills, integrated navigation and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. It also gets an electronic differential lock, parking steering assistance and 360-degree cameras.

Aventura meanwhile takes a premium approach to equipment and stands out from the PanAmericana with 21-inch alloy wheels, chrome mirrors, door handles and rear bumper, LED tail-light clusters, colour-keyed sports bar and chrome steps.
