Pastry giant implements dash cams across LCV fleet

The firm, which began more than 50 years ago with ‘Thomas Pies’ in Merthyr Tydfil, has grown to be a household name, and operates from its headquarters in Caerphilly, with 10 distribution centres moving around three million pies, pasties and sausage rolls, amongst other products, across the UK each week.

To encourage safer driving and minimise the likelihood of road incidents, Peter’s ran an extensive head-to-head trial of a number of video-based safety solutions, before selecting the Lytx DriveCam Safety Programme.

The new solution records both the road and the driver’s actions, and transmits video clips for review when certain events occur, such as harsh braking. These clips are reviewed by Lytx-trained experts and pertinent clips are prioritised for client’s use in driver coaching. The system also helps protect drivers in the event of an incident that was not their fault by providing a clearer picture of what actually happened.

At the moment the technology is used on LCVs but Peter's is planning to roll the solution out across its HGVs in due course.

“We have an excellent team of drivers, but it is important that we continue to monitor and develop their skills wherever possible,” said Mark Killin, Peter’s food service transport manager. “We selected Lytx because of the nearly two decades of experience behind the insights they provided about our fleet and the excellent customer service they demonstrated throughout.”

Damian Penney, vice president and general manager Europe at Lytx, added: “Being selected as the safety partner by such a prestigious brand is an honour. We look forward to working closely with Peters Food Service to ensure that their drivers and other road users are as safe as they can be, a goal we share with our more than 1,300 clients.”
