Pilkington Automotive drives fleet performance with Ctrack telematics solution

Pilkington Automotive, a leading AGR distributor and wholesaler, has adopted fleet and video telematics from Ctrack to enhance road safety, boost efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The company is rolling out the tech on all new vans within the company’s 35-strong commercial fleet. The firm operates a nationwide delivery service from a network of seven UK locations, including its central distribution centre in Redditch.

Calum Young, operations manager at Pilkington Automotive, said: “Meeting our customer needs in a safe, efficient and sustainable way is a priority for the business, so it is crucial that our drivers are operating responsibly and abiding by all health and safety requirements. We needed a highly effective and simple-to-use telematics solution, backed by dashcams, to gain peace of mind around employee welfare and fleet performance.”

The new solution replaces a previous system, supplied as part of Pilkington’s vehicle procurement, and is used by two operations managers, with restricted access for regional managers and supervisors. This ensures the company can optimise fleet productivity and efficiency through route analysis and driver behaviour monitoring, while protecting drivers and other road users.

The road-facing cameras provide a true picture of what has occurred following an actual or alleged road traffic collision, enabling the company to quickly check on the welfare of the driver, determine liability, and challenge any false claims. They are also used to investigate any incoming complaints, particularly from other road users via Pilkington Automotive’s How’s My Driving? road safety scheme. Where issues are detected, Pilkington Automotive uses video evidence alongside driver behaviour data to shape and support training requirements.

“We are already seeing some early benefits in terms of driver protection, claims management and cost reduction, while drivers are acting more vigilantly because of the increased engagement, leading to less high-risk driving incidents. As a result, we believe the Ctrack solution will become an essential part of our fleet performance strategy moving forward,” added Young.

Steve Thomas, managing director of Ctrack UK, commented: “With continued advances in the technology, particularly around connectivity and data analysis, we can deliver flexible and use-friendly telematics systems that offer proven safety, efficiency and sustainability improvements.”
