Public safety around large goods vehicles to be focus of FTA conference

The conference, sponsored by Brigade Electronics, Goodyear and Volvo Trucks and supported by the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers), is aimed at providing those who have responsibility for health and safety within transport and logistics operations with an insight into key industry initiatives, best practice and emerging issues.

Delegates will hear a keynote speech by the chair of the health and safety executive, Judith Hackitt, and from health and safety officials, transport operators and industry experts.

Sally Thornley, FTA’s director of standards, audit and accreditation, who will be chairing the event, said:“It is right that industry continues to do all it can to ensure safe operations, but we all have an important role to play in understanding the risks that are difficult to control and working with the public to help raise awareness.”

Sessions include:

  • Keynote address by Judith Hackitt, chair of the health & safety executive
  • Public safety and large goods vehicles – a presentation by Abby Miller of the Home Retail Group
  • Vehicle runaways – Andy Mair, FTA’s head of engineering
  • Health and safety enforcement – Matthew Gowen, Birketts LLP
  • Safe and legal loading – from consignor to consignee – FTA’s Sally Thornley
  • Mobile worker safety and welfare panel session
  • Mechanical handling equipment – Gary King, Sainsbury’s 

Places are available to FTA members at £325 plus VAT for the first delegate and £275 plus VAT for subsequent delegates; the cost for non-members is £385 plus VAT for the first delegate and £345 plus VAT for subsequent delegates.
