Readypower Group switches from diesel vans to hybrid Toyota Corolla Commercial

Specialist rail and infrastructure services provider Readypower Group is replacing its fleet of diesel vans with 45 hybrid electric Corolla Commercial vehicles from Toyota.

The new vehicles are being used by the company’s engineers to support clients across the UK

The new Toyotas go into service this month, used by the company’s engineers to support clients across the country. The group works across a wide range of sectors, including rail, power, highways and regulated infrastructure, operating out of six principal hubs and additional satellite facilities across the UK.

Tony Buckland, transport manager from Readypower Group, said the incoming hybrids would help the company with a concerted focus to lower its vehicle emissions.

“We looked at diesel models available on the market, but by choosing Corolla Commercial hybrids we have been able to reduce our average fleet CO2 emissions. There is a further positive as we are supporting British industry with the vans being built here in the UK.”

Launched earlier this year, the new Toyota is built at Toyota UK’s manufacturing plant in Derby and is the first full hybrid van in the UK market. Derived from the Corolla Touring Sports passenger car, it replaces the rear seats with a lined load area and also features a full metal bulkhead.

Neil Broad, general manager One Toyota Fleet Services, said: “Our Corolla Commercial enjoys a unique position, being the only full petrol hybrid electric van available in the UK market. Its efficient hybrid system is self-charging, so businesses do not have to factor in vehicle downtime for recharging. This makes it a practical and attractive proposition for customers who are not yet in a position to adopt fully electric vehicles.”

The Corolla Commercial is priced at £22,590 (CV OTR, excl. VAT) and is available in a single equipment grade. Standard equipment includes the full complement of Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance features.
