Renault to drive LCV electrification plans with PVI acquisition

Renault has acquired French company PVI, which specialises in the electrification of light commercial vehicles, as it looks to develop a full range of electrified LCVs.

PVI has already collaborated with Renault on its forthcoming Master Z.E. electric van.

PVI specialises in electric powertrains, including for electric buses and trucks, and has already worked with Renault on its forthcoming Master Z.E. electric van.

Renault said the acquisition would enable it to step up the implementation of new technologies, especially in the field of electric LCV conversions. As well as launching its first-ever Master Z.E., Renault already offers the electric Kangoo Z.E., which now offers a 50% longer range.

The carmaker added that it would benefit from PVI’s small-scale, flexible production facility in France while Renault in turn would provide economies of scale for the purchasing of components as well as a significant technology portfolio.

Ashwani Gupta, SVP, LCV Division, said: “This acquisition is part of the group’s strategy to develop its business by proposing a complete range of electric LCVs coupled with connected services.

“Together we will continue to innovate to ensure increasing proximity with our business customers while addressing their every need.”

Renault already offers the electric Kangoo Z.E., which now offers a 50% longer range, and recently announcedthe launch of its first-ever Master Z.E. to its electric vehicle line-up.

This acquisition also includes the Escal subsidiary, which specialises in the distribution, installation and maintenance of security systems for lifting vehicles.
