Commenting on the figures, Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association, said: “There was a significant increase in the 2.5 – 3.5t sector where 106,832 were registered – a 22% increase on last year. These types of vehicles are typically used for home deliveries and in the service industry. They are also popular for leisure use. Dealers and manufactures are confident that sales of vans will continue to grow through the second half of the year.
“Truck registrations also continue to post large gains, with registrations up more than 40% in both June and the year-to-date. The most significant growth comes from the maximum weight +16t ridged chassis which were up 62.6%, and the maximum weight 3 axle tractor units, up 66.8%. These expensive vehicles are used for business purposes and give a clear indication that customers and dealers are feeling more confident in the economy and general industry.
“The NFDA and our members are confident that the commercial vehicle market will continue to grow for the remainder of 2015.”
