Roadsense launches combined telematics and real-time 3G camera

Described by the firm as a ‘game changer’, the system provides a full tracking and driver behaviour solution.

Andrew Tillman, managing director of Roadsense, said: “We are focused on driving innovation in telematics and this really is a game changer for the industry. We believe that we were the first telematics company to fully integrate a real-time 3G camera system and now, as other providers are starting to realise the benefits, we have just raised the bar again.”

He continued: “Currently, fleet operators wanting both telematics and a camera system have to buy two separate hardware devices – a tracking unit and a camera – which is an expensive solution. Now we are able to provide the answer in one high-quality, cost-effective unit, so operators will be able to have everything they need, fully integrated, from a single supplier.”

The new solution also offers the ability to see three levels of video information. Video of high-threshold events including accidents and dangerous high-manoeuvres, are sent back to the Roadsense platform in real-time, allowing almost instant viewing of hazardous events, together with real-time incident notification via SMS or email.

Medium-threshold events can also be sent back in real-time or, to minimise transmission costs, they can be stored onboard the vehicle and retrieved on demand. Video of low-threshold events can also be captured and retrieved remotely, or simply used as part of behavioral scoring. A rolling record of all driving events are also stored onboard the unit.

The company said that as with the Roadwatch Live system, the new Plus version eliminates the limitations of systems that are reliant on SD-cards, providing a high-reliability camera system, plus full telematics reporting at a fraction of the cost of buying two separate hardware units.

A second plug-in camera unit will provide operators with a second internal or external real-time view from the vehicle.
