Same-day courier service certified carbon-neutral

National same-day courier service Speedy Freight is now a certified carbon-neutral business.

Speedy Freight is already working to roll out electric vehicles

The certification includes the company’s office spaces across the entire franchised network, commuting practices and its owned courier fleet.

Through the Carbon Neutral Britain Climate Fund, Speedy Freight is offsetting its carbon emissions through internationally certified carbon offsetting projects. Projects are selected based on their direct and indirect impact around the world.

The certification is measured through the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER) and Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes – said to be the three largest and most regulated offsetting standards in the world.

Certification is awarded following calculation using the ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol Emissions Standard principles of relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy.

The Carbon Neutral certification is part of Speedy Freight’s work to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

The business is already working to roll out electric vehicles. It added the Maxus eDeliver 3 electric van to its south coast fleet in 2022, carrying out deliveries across Bournemouth and Dorchester. The firm had already deployed the Mercedes-Benz eVito electric van to its fleet in early 2022, joining the courier’s London operations.

Shaun Sidley, HSQE manager at Speedy Freight, said: “Speedy Freight recognises the importance of environmental protection and is committed to operating responsibly.

“We are constantly endeavouring to optimise our operational efficiency; help reduce energy consumption emissions and waste through technical improvements and the implementation of better working practices.”
