Silverstone Fleet Show 2014: Tesla signs up to Show

Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of Silicon Valley engineers who wanted to prove that electric vehicles could be the answer to stylish but emissions-free motoring.

The latest car from Tesla is the Model S, which was recently voted Car of the Year in 2014 in Norway and The Most Stylish Car of the Year 2014 in Switzerland.

The Model S is the first premium sports saloon to be designed as an electric car from the ground up. It features a battery pack located under the cabin which offers a range up to 300 miles and, using the carmaker’s network of Supercharger fast charging units coming soon to the UK, drivers are able to travel long distances with no fuel charge.

Tesla recently announced it is to open more than 30 new service centres across Europe, including two more in the UK, as sales of the Model S begin to accelerate.

Tesla country director for the UK and Ireland, Georg Ell, commented: ‘With first deliveries of the new right-hand drive Model S arriving this Spring, the Fleet World Fleet Show is a great opportunity for fleet managers to come and experience the car.

‘O% Benefit in Kind until 2015 makes the Model S an attractive proposition to company car drivers but more than that, Tesla is breaking new ground in the electric vehicle and wider market. It is an exciting brand to get involved with.’

Jerry Ramsdale, Show organiser and publisher of Fleet World, said: ‘Fleet managers have been hearing about Tesla for some time now, and at last they are going to be able to see the cars for themselves. What’s more, they can also take the cars out on the circuit and find out why Tesla has become one of the most talked about brands in the motor industry recently.

‘It’s not often that a new name appears in the fleet world, so we’re delighted to be able to welcome Tesla to the Fleet Show. I think that fleet managers attending the show will be genuinely interested to meet the people from Tesla and her about their proposition for the fleet market.’

This year’s Fleet World Fleet Show will be the first opportunity for many fleet decision makers to test-drive one of an array of exciting new EVs and discover why electric power could meet the fleet mobility needs of the future.

Tesla joins a number of manufacturers, including BMW, Nissan, Vauxhall, Citroen, Renault, Infiniti, Volvo, Peugeot, Lexus, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai, who are expected to have their latest low emission and EV offerings at the event on display and available for test driving.

At the same time, electric charging companies, including ABB and Charging Solutions, will also be exhibiting at the Show to allow fleet decision makers to get a complete overview of the infrastructure available.

‘The electromobility movement is gaining impetus and Silverstone will be the ideal place to catch up on the very latest new models from a whole host of motor manufacturers,’ added Jerry Ramsdale.

This year the organisers have split the Grand Prix circuit in two, using the National circuit for faster laps, and the International Circuit for road speed drives. There is also an off-road circuit for those wishing to try one of the many 4x4s on offer.

At the same time, the infield Stowe Circuit will become an eco-driving hub, sponsored by Allstar Card Services, for those manufacturers with strong low-CO2 sub-brands. This will allow them to not only prove the fuel efficiency of their cars, but also to demonstrate how to drive them in the most economical fashion.

A team of eco-driving experts will also be available on the day to help fleet managers understand how they can achieve, or even exceed, the published fuel consumption figures for popular fleet cars.
