SmartWitness launches new risk management hardware and software

SmartWitness has introduced two new products to assist fleet management and driver safety.

Revealed last week at the CV Show, the solutions include the new AP1 road-facing camera.

It’s said to be the first edge-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) camera that combines plug-and-play installation, assisted GPS support, audible alerts to drivers in the event of an imminent accident, along with a compact design that doesn’t block driver views.

The new camera also features intuitive functionality that requires minimal training as well as benefits that SmartWitness says can help combat driver shortages by avoiding conflict from driver-facing cameras.

SmartWitness has also expanded its artificial intelligence capabilities with Artificial Intelligence Driving Events (AIDE), a cloud-based add-on to its SmartAPI software platform.

It’s said to reduce false alerts as much as ten-fold by applying a wide range of contextual factors to video captured by system cameras.

This dramatic decrease in false positives limits the number of events requiring manual review by fleet managers, avoids unnecessary driver coaching sessions, and eliminates driver frustration associated with erroneous reports of risky driving behaviour.

AIDE is now included with all SmartWitness deployments at no additional cost. It’s backward-compatible with all SmartWitness cameras and works with any telematics system.

George Parapitev, SmartWitness vice president of technology, said: “Fleet managers are too busy to waste time reviewing events that have no safety or liability implications. If they can’t trust the reports, they can’t trust the system that generates them. AIDE increases that trust, improves manager productivity, and avoids damaging driver morale by removing alerts for events that require no coaching or other intervention. These factors help channel partners reduce customer churn and build long-term relationships that advance their business.”
