SmartWitness targets van fleets with new ‘van cam’ safety product

The VanProtect package is built on SmartWitness’s forward facing KP1 camera – which offers 1080 HD footage across a 170 degrees range – and also includes a 120’ rear view Infra-Red camera (essential when manoeuvring in the dark) and a monitor that is located on the dashboard.

Engaging reverse on the vehicle automatically activates the monitor enabling the driver to see clearly any potential hazards behind the vehicle.

In the event of an incident the camera has G sensors which can calculate speed and force of collision and the processor in the camera automatically buffers 10 seconds around the impact so that all of the details leading up to the incident are recorded. VanProtect’s forward facing camera fits neatly behind the rear view mirror and can be locked making it tamper proof.

The enhanced VanProtect+ package includes 3G/4G instant video transmission with built-in vehicle location and telematics data. The solution provides the fleet manager and insurer with instant incident notifications in less than 60 seconds.

SmartWitness CEO Paul Singh said: “We have devised a system that will work for a single owner/driver, to a medium sized fleet of 20-30 vehicles which can make use our email and web notification technologies, right up to multi-national fleets with their own telematics software, which our cameras will integrate with completely.

“VanProtect and VanProtect+ take driver, vehicle and vulnerable road user safety to the next level by offering prevention and protection. I would urge every van operator to take a look.”
