Southern Cranes boosts cost efficiency with connected fleet management

Southern Cranes and Access has seen a major cost efficiency benefits across its mixed fleet after deploying an integrated camera telematics solution.

The company has rolled out Webfleet, together with Mantis Live cameras, across its 91-strong mixed fleet

The Sussex-based crane hire and powered access specialist has rolled out Webfleet, together with Mantis Live cameras, across its 91-strong fleet of vans, cranes and heavy haulage transport.

Transport manager Tony Flegg said the introduction of the platform, deployed by official Webfleet partner AES Fleet, had enabled it to streamline and enhance its digital fleet management capabilities, delivering significant productivity and cost efficiency gains.

Notably, vehicle downtime and administration has been reduced with Webfleet Tachoshare enabling tachograph data to be remotely downloaded from the company’s HGVs and shared directly with FTA Vision software for analysis.

“We previously had to try and catch the fleet drivers on site when available to manually download data and remain compliant,” explained Flegg.

The fully connected vehicle camera system has delivered greater asset visibility and security, with cranes often out on site for weeks at a time.

The ability to monitor and address inefficient fuel usage and driving performance with greater accuracy has also boosted the company’s cost control strategies.

Flegg added: “The solution is robust and easy to use and it will help raise the bar in the efficiency of our day-to-day operations as we set our sights on continued business growth and the highest standards of service delivery.”
