The equipment upgrades see increased safety kit, including standard fitment of VW’s Front Assist with City Emergency Braking autonomous emergency braking technology – now included as standard on all VW models – and the driver alert feature.

All models, including entry-level Startline versions, gain a leather multifunction steering wheel and multifunction display (in addition to AEB and Driver Alert), while 2018 mid-range Trendline models gain climatic air conditioning as standard. And the range-topping Highline models now get Volkswagen’s Discover Media satellite navigation system as standard.

The 2018 Caddy also heralds the introduction of a cheaper pricing structure for TSI petrol engines, including the entry-level Startline 1.2 TSI 84hp model, which now costs £17,527 (total RRP inc OTR and VAT) – £1,017 less than the previous price.
