The company points out that a reasonably well-equipped Android tablet can now be bought for around £100 and used to access and update many different kinds of data relating to fleet and other business applications.
Managing director Ashley Sowerby said: ‘Make no mistake, an entry-level, seven-inch tablet PC is not going to impress an experienced iPad user but it is perfectly acceptable as a means to access the internet on-the-go when a smart phone is too restrictive.
‘At this price, giving one to employees as an easy method of accessing and recording relevant information, whether relating directly to the fleet such as mileage, or almost any other workflow process, is extremely cost-effective.’
Sowerby also highlighted Chevin’s new FleetWave Mobile app that is designed to be used in conjunction with the company’s FleetWave fleet management system and can be used to gather fleet or other operational information using manual input, QR codes, bar codes or pictures.
Ashley said: ‘A product such as FleetWave Mobile is a highly adaptable mobile data gathering tool perfect for tablets that has a wide variety of fleet-specific applications but is also ideal for organisations where the fleet is simply a tool in the delivery of a product or service.
‘For example, a technician inspecting a commercial vehicle for compliance could use a form generated within the app and so could a driver recording mileage and journey information – but FleetWave Mobile is equally suited to the driver of a van needing a signature to show a delivery has been made or a field worker for a utilities company who needs to record complex information.’
