The Green Insurer brings carbon offsetting to van insurance sector

The Green Insurer is adding van insurance to its range, enabling fleets and drivers to offset their carbon emissions.

The business says it’s seeing strong demand from drivers for green insurance and to offset all carbon emissions

The green car insurance broker, which launched in December 2023, said it’s already seeing strong demand for its car insurance policies and is now rolling out in the van sector on the back of rising demand.

Its van policies will cover all classes of van insurance – social and commuting, business use (carriage of own goods) and haulage (delivering goods) suitable for couriers and delivery drivers.

The new offering will work to cut costs for van drivers by negotiating special deals with insurers and drivers will also benefit from rewards for environmentally friendly driving worth up to £20 a year through its Leaves reward scheme.

Customers can earn discounts of up to 6% on weekly supermarket shopping through a range of partnerships that include leading retailers as well as restaurant chains and transport groups.

Drivers receive a Green Driving Score in the company’s app based on how and how far they drive. This enables The Green Insurer to calculate rewards and how much carbon to offset, and will be used to calculate their renewal premium and to offer discounts when they renew.

Paul Baxter, CEO, The Green Insurer, said: “Adding van insurance to our range of policies is another major step forward as we continue to see strong demand from drivers who want to buy genuinely green insurance and to offset all carbon emissions.

“Our van insurance will help to reduce the cost of driving and insurance for van drivers while rewarding them for driving in an environmentally responsible way and we are confident of strong demand.”

He continued: “The response from the industry has been extremely positive as has the response from customers and we look forward to working with more insurers and to further expanding our range of policies in the future.”
