Toyota Corolla Commercial hybrid van gets power uplift and more tech

Toyota is introducing an updated version of its Corolla Commercial hybrid van, increasing power and adding new features.

The Corolla Commercial matches its Hatchback and Touring Sports passenger car counterparts in adopting Toyota’s latest hybrid technology

Launched just a year after the model went on sale in the UK, the revised version matches its Hatchback and Touring Sports passenger car counterparts in adopting Toyota’s new fifth-generation hybrid technology.

The upgraded 1.8-litre powertrain saves weight on various components, increases efficiency and switches to a more powerful lithium-ion battery.

The result is more power and faster acceleration while the van’s fuel and emissions efficiency figures are maintained.

Total power output now stands at 140hp, bringing a 1.7-second reduction in the 0-62mph time to 9.4 seconds. WLTP CO2 emissions are from 100g/km, with fuel economy from 64.2mpg.

Load-carrying capacity is maintained at 1,326 litres with a 425kg maximum payload.

The updated Corolla Commercial also gains the latest Toyota Safety Sense package of advanced safety and driver assistance systems, with more functions and increased hazard detection capabilities.

The Corolla Commercial is developed and produced in the UK at Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK’s Burnaston facility in Derbyshire while the engine is supplied by the TMUK Deeside factory in North Wales. It’s based on the Corolla Touring Sports 1.8 Hybrid but with the rear seats replaced with a lined load area. The conversion includes a rubber load space lining, full bulkhead grille, interior light and 12v power outlet.

The Corolla Commercial is available in a single grade with standard equipment that includes eight-inch multimedia display, smartphone integration with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, reversing camera, automatic headlights, heated and power-adjustable door mirrors, dual-zone air con and heated, height-adjustable seats with power lumbar adjustment for the driver. It’s priced at £24,503 (CV OTR, not including VAT).
