Trakm8 has signed a long-term deal to supply its route optimisation and delivery slot booking software to one of the UK’s largest grocery retailers.

The unnamed business operates more than 2,000 delivery vehicles nationwide and will make use of Trakm8’s route optimisation and slot booking algorithms to increase operational efficiencies and maximise delivery capabilities.

Peter Mansfield, group sales and marketing director at Trakm8, said: “The signing of a new agreement with a leading supermarket chain is a significant step forward in our offering to the FMCG sector. By utilising our slot booking and route optimisation services, the brand will be able to make significant savings across the board, cutting fuel costs and increasing driver efficiency, alongside creating more delivery opportunities for customers.

It’s the prime time for such a deal;  the FMCG sector has seen unprecedented levels of demand since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Research by market insights specialist Mintel found that the online grocery shopping sector grew by 33% during lockdown, reaching an estimated value of £16.8bn – up from £12.7bn in 2019.

Trakm8’s optimisation platform will help its new client plan routes more effectively – it’s said to bring fleet productivity gains of up to 33% and cut fuel spend by as much as 20% – while the slot booking and dynamic scheduling functionality will help the retailer meet the customer’s home delivery expectations efficiently.

Mansfield added: “From initial benchmarking trials alone, we have been able to demonstrate how our solution can reduce mileage and improve existing average drops per hour, which has the potential to deliver significant savings and ultimately, deliver an impressive ROI across the length of the contract.”
