RoSPA has announced the winners of its 2014 Occupational Health and Safety Awards, including Tristar and CEMEX, which were recognised for their work on the management of occupational road risk (MORR).
Middlesex-based Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services has been announced as the winner of RoSPA’s MORR Technology Trophy in recognition of its dedication to using the latest technology to save the lives of those who drive for work. The trophy honours the best use of technology in MORR, from black boxes in vehicles to e-learning and social media.
Kevin Clinton, RoSPA’s head of road safety, said: ‘The judges were very impressed with Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services’ focus on ensuring that the vehicles it uses to transport its clients make comprehensive use of the latest vehicle safety technologies.
‘The firm is an early adopter of telematics technology and is pro-active in analysing the information this provides, and in using it to identify problems and inform safety improvements. This can often be the missing piece in the jigsaw when companies use telematics, but do not know how to use the data it provides. Tristar’s introduction of cameras in its cars was a notable development; this is often seen in trucks and vans, but less often in car fleets.’
Meanwhile CEMEX UK Operations Limited – Logistics has been awarded RoSPA’s MORR Trophy, which honours the organisation which demonstrates the most effective and cohesive programme for the management of occupational road risk, supported by historical performance data.
Kevin Clinton said: ‘The judges were impressed by CEMEX’s commitment to managing the risks to its drivers, but in particular by its continuing investment in new systems to protect other road users, especially cyclists. The manner in which CEMEX developed these safety improvements, researching the exact problems, trialling new solutions and evaluating their effectiveness, was equally impressive.
‘But perhaps the most impressive aspect of CEMEX’s entry was the way it has worked extensively with many stakeholders, communicating key road safety messages and sharing the results of its trials so that other companies can benefit from them.’
