Vehicle inspection app could save fleets more than £350 a vehicle

A new AI-based inspection app could save fleets more than £350 a vehicle by identifying vehicle damage and problems early.

Pave’s automated inspection platform identifies all types of vehicle damage

Developed in Canada and now available in the UK, Pave is an open API self-inspection solution that enables customer-guided professional inspections, through the use of a smartphone, to generate extensive inspection reports that can be seamlessly uploaded to existing fleet management systems.

An initial rollout with UK customers has revealed hundreds of pounds in savings per vehicle by avoiding unscheduled repairs and downtime.

The inspection platform supports fleets with regular checks to ensure vehicles run efficiently for longer as well as minimising costly downtime and avoiding unforeseen repairs.

This cuts costs by fixing any minor damage before it becomes extensive and expensive to rectify, while also helping improve the life expectancy of a vehicle.

Traditionally, fleets had to outsource vehicle inspections to third parties; a time consuming and costly process that put many fleets off regular checks, leaving them exposed to unexpected damage and defects at the end of contracts or at defleet time.

But AI is transforming the landscape of vehicle inspections, empowering anyone with a smart phone or device to carry out a professional level, trusted, reliable vehicle inspection.

Phil Deegan, UK head of business development at Pave, said: “By analysing high-resolution images and sensor data, Pave’s automated inspection platform identifies all types of vehicle damage, from major collision damage to even the subtlest cosmetic defects, such as scratches, dents, and paint damage, that may go unnoticed by the human eye.

“It allows anyone to become a skilled inspector, whether that be existing personnel at the fleet depot or yard, drivers, or anyone with access to a smartphone, and effortlessly generates detailed condition reports by simply capturing standard imagery of the vehicle itself, eradicating the need for third parties, streamlining and expediting the inspection process.

“And the accurate, unbiased results enable fleet managers to set wear and tear standards that drive decision-making across the fleet.”

The combination of AI and automated inspections opens up new opportunities for fleet managers to optimise their operations, including identifying at-fault parties, to scheduling service, sourcing replacement parts and making informed decisions about vehicle disposal.

Deegan added: “Fleet managers are now able to make informed decisions faster, and minimise downtime. There’s no time like the present to adopt Pave into your business to support your processes and improve its efficiency.”
