This information is backed-up by the results of a recent survey from the Road Haulage Association which found that 54% of Britain’s fleets were now using journey recorders and 35% were close to doing so.
The SmartWitness team will be showcasing three products at the forthcoming Commercial Vehicle Show, a 3G/4G instant video transmission camera and two versions of journey recording technology.
SmartWitness’s international sales director Mark Berry said that vehicle journey recorders were changing the driving experience for fleet managers and private drivers. “What was previously seen as a niche product is now becoming an every day part of every motorist’s routine," he said.
SmartWitness has developed new partnerships with telematic firms Navman Wireless and TomTom Telematics, with SmartWitness products now integrating seamlessly with these telematics systems.
According to SmartWitness, journey recorders can help to protect drivers from false claims – 2% of accidents captured on SmartWitness cameras result in disputed motor insurance claims, compared to an industry norm of 40% of queried motor insurance claims.
