Video telematics with emergency response launches to protect lone workers

A new video-enabled lone worker protection solution said to be able to better protect drivers both in and outside the vehicle is now available.

The fully integrated service combines PeopleSafe’s personal protection service with SureCam video telematics

The fully integrated service combines the benefits of a personal protection service from Peoplesafe with video telematics from SureCam – and it’s said to be a fleet industry first.

A strategic partnership between the two safety technology specialists has created a video-enabled solution that allows real-time footage to be viewed directly by a professional Alarm Receiving Centre in the event of an emergency.

Drivers scan a QR code using the Pro mobile app to register their unique ID, which confirms who is driving the vehicle. This then automatically enables controllers in the Peoplesafe Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) to access both audio communication and video footage, as well as incident data when an alarm is raised – whether that’s due to a road traffic accident, illness or injury, or even someone getting aggressive with the driver.

The Driver ID functionality also means fleets gain complete visibility of who is operating a vehicle when a collision, near miss or harsh driving event occurs.

Footage from forward and dual cameras that can be mounted internally or externally also provides immediate visual insight into what has happened, so the most appropriate action can be taken quickly, efficiently, and safely. Not only can incidents be recorded, the combination of the Peoplesafe mobile app and SureCam video also means that access to emergency help is much faster and more efficient than calling 999.

Unlike standard in-cab SOS button function devices, the integrated solution supports the driver both in and outside their vehicle.

Sam Footer, partnership director at SureCam, explained: “The partnership has brought together two like-minded businesses, both leaders in their respective fields, to create a health and safety service that safeguards drivers when they are most at risk.”

Naz Dossa, CEO of Peoplesafe, added: “Drivers are often the most in danger when they exit the vehicle – as a result of slips, trips, falls or an act of violence – so our personal safety services offer another layer of protection to that already provided by vehicle tracking and video telematics. By working with industry-leading technology partners such as SureCam, we are developing innovative, sector-specific solutions that mitigate employee risk and support high levels of duty of care within the fleet, road transport and construction sectors.”

It’s already been adopted by Ringway Jacobs, which says it’s seeing an improved level of safety and fleet risk reduction, along with an enhanced level of support to drivers both in and out of their vehicles.

David Bonehill, head of fleet at Ringway Jacobs, said: “The Peoplesafe SureCam solution has not only increased compliance of our personal safety processes, but also extends and enhances the levels of protection we can provide our drivers.

“Health, wellbeing, and safety are at the heart of everything we do, so our aim is to always provide a safe working environment for our employees.”
