Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has given the lowdown on the new Amarok, which is priced from £33,000 excluding VAT.
On sale from 14 June, the much-anticipated pickup arrives four years after the first generation went off sale. It uses the same chassis and engines as the new Ford Ranger under the firms’ global cooperation but is distinguished by design; only the door handles, wing mirrors and the roof are common across the two products.
Providing greater length and a longer wheelbase, the new Amarok delivers more room in the cab, while shorter overhangs improve the off-road ability. The cargo bed can accommodate a sideways loaded Euro pallet while enabling a payload of up to 1.113 tonnes.
The new Amarok’s front-end gets a bolder look with horizontal upper radiator grille crossbars, while the rear end is marked out by new C-shaped rear lights.
In the UK, the engine line-up starts with the 170hp 2.0-litre TDI, offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Next up is a 205hp 2.0 TDI while the range topper is a 240hp 3.0-litre TDI V6; both with a 10-speed automatic as standard.
All Amarok models come equipped with all-wheel drive with either three or four drive system modes, while a limited-slip differential is standard on the top-spec model and optional on other trim grades
It’s available in four trims: Life, Style, PanAmericana and Aventura.
The entry-level trim, Amarok Life, focuses on Comfort, featuring 17-inch silver alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a 10-inch infotainment screen and a rear-view camera system. It’s available with both 2.0-litre TDIs, priced at £33,000 and £34,300 (excluding VAT).
The Amarok Style swaps to upgraded 18-inch silver alloy wheels and gains a chrome styling bar and black side steps with a chrome insert. It also gets an upgraded 12-inch central infotainment screen with navigation, as well as additional safety features, such as Area View 360° camera. It’s teamed up with the higher-powered 2.0 TDI or the V6, priced at £41,459 and £43,950 respectively excl. VAT.
The PanAmericana focuses on off-road ability. The driveline features a rear locking differential, underride guard, as well as the comfort suspension system. It also gets upgraded 18-inch black alloy wheels, and a premium bumper with black ‘X’ insert. It’s solely available with the V6 and priced at £46,200 excl. VAT.
The range-topping Amarok Aventura takes a design-led approach, featuring 21-inch silver alloy wheels, chrome-plated exterior mirror and door handles, and premium bumper with silver ‘X’ insert. Teamed up with the V6, it’s priced at £47,000 excl. VAT.
All new Amaroks also come with five years of servicing and MOTs, warranty and roadside assistance.
The new Amarok starts first deliveries from late summer 2023.
