Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles launches smart telematics service

The service, which is a partnership between Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Finance and the RAC, also provides businesses with real-time data and reporting through a customisable portal, helping fleets to manage fuel costs and improve vehicle efficiency. The bespoke telematics portal is accessible via laptop, tablet or smartphone.

As part of the fleet management service, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle’s telematics provision includes a “Driverline” concierge service which enables customers to book in service and maintenance requirements at a local Van Centre.

Other key product benefits include collision detection, fuel and CO2 monitoring, service alerts, service scheduling and geo-fencing.

Developed to be compatible with almost any vehicle in the market, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles telematics offering enables mixed vehicle fleet customers to manage their entire fleet through one system; without the need for additional software or hardware costs.

‘Running a cost-effective fleet is crucial to maintaining a profitable business, which is why more and more companies are investing in telematics to help manage their fleets,’ explained Kevin Rendell, head of service and parts at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK.

‘Our telematics system is a comprehensive solution, which can help companies to reduce fuel costs, extend the life span of parts and components, and optimise vehicle efficiency. It’s been designed to offer the level of quality and technical innovation that our customers expect from Volkswagen. It is much more than just a method for tracking driver behaviour and vehicle locations.’

Available through the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Van Centre network from February 2015, the units are offered on a monthly contract fee of £12.50 per month (excluding VAT) for 36 months.
