Volkswagen Multivan and Caddy Cargo gain plug-in hybrids

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Caddy Cargo van and seven-seat Multivan people carrier are now available with plug-in hybrids.

Open for orders now, the Multivan eHybrid 4Motion and the Caddy Cargo eHybrid start customer deliveries from early summer.

Strengthening Volkswagen’s line-up of plug-in hybrid commercial vehicles available to customers, the Caddy Cargo panel van receives plug-in hybrid drive for the first time in the form of the 1.5 TSI 150hp six-speed DSG engine.

Priced from £28,435 (OTR excl. VAT), the new variant gets a larger payload of up to 740kg compared to other versions, while providing the same max load length of 2,150mm and up to 3.7m3 load volume.

It’s available in a choice of three trim levels – Commerce, Commerce Plus and Commerce Pro.

The Commerce trim includes features such as 16-inch black steel wheels with wheel trims, six lashing rings in load compartment, single near-side sliding door (SWB), or twin near-side and off-side sliding doors (Maxi), 10.4-inch infotainment system, Digital Cockpit Pro, Bluetooth mobile phone interface, DAB digital radio, rear parking sensors, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control including speed limiter and bulkhead without window.

Commerce Plus adds storage compartments under driver and front passenger seats, the ErgoComfort seat, power lumbar for driver seat, leather multi-function steering wheel, driver armrest, manual air-con and App-Connect.

Commerce Pro versions upgrade this with a 10.4-inch navigation system with colour touchscreen and four speakers, We Connect Plus preparation, Keyless go without Safelock, Wireless App-Connect, heated front seats/washer nozzles/windscreen, front and rear parking sensors and rear-view camera.

The Multivan eHybrid is available from £45,465 (OTR excl. VAT) and features a new 1.5 TSI 245hp six-speed DSG 4Motion powertrain all-wheel drive, with the electric motor on the rear axle working in tandem with the engine which powers the front axle.

It’s equipped with a large 19.7kWh lithium-ion battery, giving a WLTP range of up to 57.2 miles on pure electric.

As with other Multivan models, the new variant offers space for up to seven seats as standard, and the same 469 litres of luggage space, extending to 1,844 litres with the rear seats removed. All models also get sliding doors on the left and right, and a slidable multi-function table/centre console with three cup holders.

Two trim levels – Life and Style – and two vehicle lengths (standard and long wheelbase) are available.

The Life trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels in silver or 17-inch alloys, multifunctional leather steering wheel, Ready 2 Discover infotainment system with 10-inch display, mobile phone interface, air-con with manual control, rear-view camera, plus anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring, backup horn and towing protection.

Driver assistance safety features deliver park assist with front and rear parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking front assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system – lane assist, driver alert system and lane change assist.

The Style trim adds 17-inch black diamond-turned surface alloys, three-zone Air Care Climatronic, heated front seats and windscreen, 30-colour interior ambient lighting, Easy Open feature for the sliding door, high-beam control Dynamic Light Assist for LED matrix headlamps, Digital Cockpit Pro, voice control including Alexa web app, central locking system with keyless locking and starting system Keyless Advanced with Safelock and LED matrix headlamps with LED separate daytime running lights.
