Volta Trucks and Siemens Smart Infrastructure have partnered to help businesses accelerate the switch to commercial fleet electrification.
The two firms will work together to provide services from charging solutions to facility infrastructure to Volta Trucks’ customers. These will be in place from the start of deliveries of its Zero electric truck in all launch markets.
Volta is forging ahead with the start of production next year for its Zero model; the world’s first purpose-built, full-electric 16-tonne commercial vehicle designed for urban distribution, and to deliver safer and more sustainable cities.
But the line-up will also see an 18-tonne vehicle go into production mid-2023, while 7.5- and 12-tonne variants are due to arrive in 2025.
Its partnership with Siemens will help customers to “simplify, de-risk and accelerate their transition to commercial fleet electrification” by providing infrastructure for full electrification aligned with their operational needs.
This will see Siemens oversee the technical infrastructure of the charging installations for Volta’s Truck-as-a-Service customers, covering both hardware and software and delivering a claimed best-in-class solution. Siemens’ performance management platform will also help Volta Trucks customers achieve higher uptime with minimum outlay.
“Through our partnership with Volta Trucks, we intend to co-create Transportation-as-a-Service solutions, and deliver Volta Trucks’ customers higher uptime, a commitment to reliability through performance-based contracts, and reduced energy expenditure. As commercial fleets look to meet sustainability goals and deliver cost effective, robust infrastructure solutions, we are pleased to be able to partner with Volta Trucks,” said Thomas Kiessling, chief technology officer of Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Volta Trucks, added: “To deliver the electrification of urban logistics at pace and scale, we need operationally efficient electrification infrastructure aligned to the exact requirement of each fleet. In Siemens, we have a world-class partner with the innovative technical solutions our customers will expect. Together, we are confident that our partnership with accelerate the migration to electrification.”
