Wialon telematics platform reaches 3.5 million connected vehicles worldwide

Wialon, the global telematics and IoT platform created by European software developer Gurtam, has reached the landmark of 3.5 million units connected, across over 150 countries.

Wialon is now the largest fleet management platform in the world by number of connected vehicles and other assets

The firm said it’s now the largest fleet management platform in the world by number of connected vehicles and other assets.

Wialon, which has signed up as a partner at this year’s Great British Fleet Event, works worldwide through a network of more than 2,400 partners, which include telematics service providers and solutions developers.

The business connects and tracks vehicles and assets ranging from cargo and passenger vehicle fleets, special machinery, as well as stationary units, including generators and fuel storage units.

The milestone vehicle connected via the platform is one of a fleet of ambulances in West Africa, where Wialon partner Geoloc Conseil supports fleets with geolocation software and fuel management.

Francois Traoré, managing director at Geoloc Conseils, said: “We’re proud to have connected the 3,500,000th vehicle on the platform. Innovative, reliable and user-friendly technology solutions on Wialon base play a key role in enabling and accelerating business growth in Africa.”

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience, Wialon has developed integrations with nearly 2,900 types of GPS tracking devices from 700 manufacturers, including automobile controllers, personal trackers and software-based trackers installed as mobile apps on smartphones.

The business is able to process data received from after-market sensors (weight, humidity, light, temperature and others), cameras, tachograph and supplementary GPS hardware, connected to GPS tracking devices.

Aliaksandr Kuushynau, head of Wialon at Gurtam, said: “Telematics and IoT applications are now ubiquitous for fleet management, and we are very proud of Wialon’s contribution to the growth of the ecosystem of global partners, developers, and clients. Connecting 3.5 million units is a significant milestone for us, making Wialon the largest global telematics and IoT platform by number of connected vehicles and other assets worldwide.”

He added: “We were actually on track to reach the milestone of 3.5 million connected vehicles much sooner, but this was delayed last year when we decided to completely suspend operations in Russia, which was one of our top-performing regions and where we had over 50% market share. Following the Ukraine invasion, we exited that market entirely and whilst it hasn’t been easy, we have achieved commercial growth despite that.”

Global expansion for 2023

Aliaksandr Kuushynau, head of Wialon at Gurtam, will be speaking at this year’s Great British Fleet Event

For 2023, Wialon’s overarching ambition is to continue to expand globally.

Kuushynau – who will be speaking in the Masterclass conferences at the Great British Fleet Event – continued: “The popularity of the platform worldwide is due to its flexibility and ultimate reliability, and to the strength and professionalism of our team. We are already active in over 150 countries, and our growth is driven in sync with our ecosystem of Wialon partners, who rely on the Wialon platform to grow their own businesses.

“Currently, Wialon covers a broad range of needs for different niches. At the same time, we offer more customised products for specific verticals, such as LeaseControl for the vehicle leasing sector.

“Telematics technology is already ubiquitous in the transport sector, as businesses endeavour to optimise safety, efficiency and performance. We will continue to improve and develop solutions for fleet managers.”
