Wincanton cuts delivery emissions with new electric FUSO eCanter

Wincanton has deployed its latest electric vehicle; an all-electric Daimler Trucks FUSO eCanter being used to carry out deliveries for sportswear giant Adidas.

Wincanton’s latest Fuso eCanter is being used to make regular deliveries of kits and equipment to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium and Carrington training ground, among other places

Providing a replacement to a previous diesel vehicle, the 7.5-tonne vehicle is based at the Wincanton-operated Adidas distribution centre in Trafford Park, Manchester, covering deliveries throughout the city and surrounding area, including to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium and Carrington training ground.

The introduction of the new vehicle follows the firm’s deployment of five Fuso eCanters last year for inner-city deliveries in London; Wincanton says it was the first UK 3PL to introduce production-level electric vehicles earlier to its fleet.

And research published earlier this year from Wincanton that found UK consumers are demanding more sustainable delivery options, with over a quarter (26%) saying they are likely to buy from a retailer that uses electric vehicles and 32% considering buying from retailers that are more environmentally friendly in the future.

Commenting on the arrival of the new eCanter, Andy Devere, network director at Wincanton, said: “This new vehicle shows that Wincanton is thinking differently about logistics and addressing the environmental challenges we’re all facing.

“Introducing these vehicles is a key part of Wincanton’s innovation roadmap, and its growth plan for the future of urban distribution transport.”
