The UK’s largest gas distribution network, which also manages the National Gas Emergency Service Line, will deploy the Samsara platform across its fleet of around 2,800 commercial vehicles, following open dialogue with drivers.
The rollout will support the company’s strategic goals around digitalisation and driver road risk management.
Cadent is the essential utility responsible for managing the gas network powering 11 million English homes and businesses. Operating a critical, round-the-clock safety mission, its engineers are on call 24/7 to tackle urgent gas leaks. By responding to emergencies within the hour, they isolate risks, secure properties and keep communities safe.
“Our selection of Samsara aligns very closely with our strategic goals,” said David Garner, chief of safety, health, engineering & environment at Cadent. “For an essential service such as ours, accurate vehicle tracking is a regulatory necessity, but our primary focus is safety. Crucially, Samsara’s technology empowers our engineers to take ownership of their own driving, moving the learning directly to the driver through in-cab alerts and the Driver App, providing them with timely feedback and coaching on their driving behaviours.”
Cadent is deploying Samsara’s advanced safety suite, rolling out AI dashcams and in-cab coaching to protect its drivers on the road. This technology directly supports the company’s Safe & Well initiative, ensuring that every colleague returns home safely at the end of each day.
Notably, Cadent has rolled out the new technology after open dialogue with its drivers on the best solution to tackle the daily safety risks of driving for work.
By prioritising transparent feedback, Cadent worked closely with its teams to implement a solution that works for everyone, transforming how the company addresses occupational driving – the highest-risk activity its engineers face daily.
Siamack Mirzaie, area vice president, Samsara, said: “We are proud to be working with Cadent, an organisation whose mission is to deliver safe and reliable energy that is vital to the UK.
“Samsara is designed to provide the real-time visibility and ease-of-use that a mission-critical fleet requires. We are excited to support Cadent’s ambition to digitalise its operations, not only by enhancing driver safety but also by streamlining complex processes such as defect reporting to bring huge benefits across the business.”
