Energy Saving Trust’s 2019 Fleet Heroes winners revealed

Fleets including Doncaster Council and DPD UK have taken the top titles in this year’s Energy Saving Trust Fleet Heroes awards.

Announced today (28 November 2019) at the EST’s awards event at the National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, by presenter Sam Ashoo, the awards – which include Fleet World as trade media partner – covered seven categories recognising fleet sustainability best practice, with 23 shortlisted organisations and individuals representing a diverse range of applicants from across the UK (see full list below).

The accompanying Fleet Heroes Conference also saw more than 150 transport experts, businesses and government in attendance to discuss fleet sustainability, ultra-low emission vehicles and air quality at the annual flagship event.

Focused on the theme of ‘Driving Net Zero’, the conference saw keynote speaker Jason Smith from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) joined by Centrica’s Chris Jackson; Leeds City Council’s Tom Cowan; SSE Enterprise’s Kevin Welstead; Highways England’s Christopher Plumb; C40 Cities’ Caroline Watson; City of York Council’s Dave Atkinson; Neil Madgwick of UK Power Networks and Kim Harrison of the Crown Commercial Service.

Tim Anderson, head of transport at Energy Saving Trust, said: “Congratulations to all the fleets and individuals recognised as Fleet Heroes at this year’s awards. Each and every one is making fantastic improvements through their work to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.

“This is the fourteenth year of Fleet Heroes celebrating the achievements of businesses, organisations and local authorities in the journey towards zero emissions.  This year’s event comes at a time of heightened awareness and urgency of the climate emergency.”

Fraser Crichton, fleet operations manager at Dundee City Council, commented: “Winning last year at the Fleet Heroes Awards was great recognition for the work we’re doing in our city around electric vehicle adoption and infrastructure. The event was an excellent opportunity to meet with peers across the sector and discuss our respective achievements and learnings.”
