Mercedes-Benz Vans has unveiled its vision for the future of commercial transit at IAA Transportation 2026. Marking 130 years of light commercial vehicle innovation, the brand showcased the all-electric VLE shuttle, the ‘Boulder’ sculpture and the newly updated Pro business ecosystem.

The all-electric VLE MPV made its trade fair debut in eight-seat shuttle configuration

Making its trade fair debut in an eight-seat shuttle configuration, the all-electric VLE MPV represents the next stage of the brand’s electrification strategy. The VLE is the first vehicle built on the company’s new modular ‘Van Architecture’ platform, engineered with an 800V electrical system that enables ultra-fast charging and delivers a range exceeding 434 miles (700km).

Starting in 2027, the same underlying platform will be used for the next-generation Vito and Sprinter commercial vans. Mercedes will deploy two versions of the platform for clear differentiation between commercial vans in the premium segment and privately positioned van-based MPVs in the luxury segment.

Alongside the VLE, Mercedes-Benz displayed its ‘Boulder’ sculpture – an artistic concept design offering an extended glimpse into the future styling of the brand’s commercial van line-up.

Milled from a single solid block, the sculpture reveals the outlines and first design details of the future Sprinter, which will continue to offer numerous lengths, wheelbases and weight variants, tailored for a wide range of configurations and industry-specific conversion and bodywork solutions.

The passenger side reveals the sleek contours of a midsize van, previewing the future replacements for the Vito and V-Class, which will also be built on the new modular Van Architecture. Developed in close cooperation with commercial customers from different industries, these new midsize and large vans focus heavily on maximising efficiency, intelligence and versatility.

Central to this new vehicle generation is the arrival of the AI-powered MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System) platform. This will enable over-the-air updates of the entire vehicle software to ensure van driving assistance technologies and comfort features remain up to date for years to come.

MB.OS also offers maximum flexibility and the ability to integrate content from external providers, which allows third-party firms to make their own apps and essential tools – for fleet management or navigation, for example – directly accessible in the vehicle via the MBUX multimedia system.

Alongside vehicles, Mercedes-Benz also showcased its updated Pro business ecosystem as the company shifts towards a ‘holistic’ software and support framework that’s guided by the ‘Business Performance. Every Day’ premise.

The upgraded Pro business solution brings together vehicles, services and digital solutions in one integrated ecosystem

The upgraded Pro business solution brings together vehicles, services and digital solutions in one integrated ecosystem. This covers the whole vehicle lifecycle – from fleet analysis and vehicle consultancy, along with individual conversions and bodywork solutions, right through to financing, leasing, insurance and digital extras. Mercedes says this will help customers run vehicles as efficiently, economically and productively as possible.

Thomas Klein, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, commented: “Mercedes-Benz Vans has always stood for solutions that help businesses run their operations reliably, efficiently and successfully. Already 10 years ago we introduced Mercedes Pro. With Mercedes‑Benz Pro, our ambition extends far beyond the vehicle itself. We are creating a connected ecosystem of vehicles, digital solutions and services that supports our customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their vehicles with Mercedes-Benz Pro. What drives us is creating the conditions that enable our customers to perform at their best, every day.”
