Renault’s new-generation Trafic E-Tech electric van has opened for pre-orders in the UK, delivering a technology-forward, software-defined workhorse priced from £38,000 + VAT before government grant incentives.
Unveiled at the IAA Transportation Show earlier this autumn where it was crowned International Van of the Year 2027, the all-electric medium-sized van launches with a choice of Advance and Extra trim levels, two wheelbases and panel or crew van versions.
Built to take on the demands of a full working day, Trafic E-Tech electric combines up to 292 miles of electric range and ultra-fast charging with the load-carrying ability, manoeuvrability and everyday versatility that have made the original Trafic so popular.
Furthermore, as a major milestone in Renault’s ‘futuREady’ strategic plan, the brand’s first software-defined vehicle can evolve throughout its working life through over-the-air updates, additional features and customisable applications.
It’s available with a choice of batteries to suit the workload. The 60kWh version is designed for urban journeys, while the 81kWh long range battery delivers up to 292 miles on the WLTP combined cycle.
Both versions use a 218hp electric motor producing 355Nm of torque, while a heat pump, aerodynamic design and efficient energy management help keep electricity consumption as low as 17.2kWh/100km. This makes it nearly 30% more efficient than nearest rivals, Renault tells us.
Crucially, the Trafic E-Tech lands as the only medium-sized electric van in the UK market to feature an 800V electrical architecture. This setup supports DC charging at up to 240kW with the 81kWh version, allowing an 80% charge in less than 20 minutes.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allows compatible electrical equipment to be powered directly from the van’s battery. This feature is standard on the Extra trim and optional on Advance.
At just 1.89m tall, Trafic E-Tech electric can access many height-restricted parking areas, while a tight 10.3-metre turning circle – the same as a Renault Clio – makes light work of narrow streets, tight loading bays and awkward manoeuvres.
With two body lengths of 4.87m and 5.27m, it offers between 5.1m3 and 5.8m3 of load space, enough for three Euro pallets. It complements this with a payload of up to 1.3 tonnes and the ability to tow up to 2 tonnes.
The Trafic E-Tech electric is designed to keep pace as the demands of the owner’s job change. As Renault’s first software-defined vehicle (SDV), it can gain new features and improved functionality throughout its working life, rather than being limited to the technology fitted when it leaves the factory.
These benefits extend far beyond software updates. Its advanced electronic architecture allows businesses to integrate their own applications directly into the vehicle’s systems. Delivery companies, for example, can display schedules, routes and job details on the dashboard, while specialist conversions such as refrigerated vans can use dedicated apps to manage onboard equipment.
The technology also opens the door to more sophisticated remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance, helping operators to avoid downtime. Combined with the ability to continually improve and adapt the vehicle’s functions, it means new Trafic E-Tech electric is designed to work smarter, for longer.
The driver-focused cabin is focused on passenger-car levels of comfort, with a fully digital instrument display, 12.3-inch touchscreen, 32 litres of storage space and rear suspension.
Advance models feature a 10-inch digital driver display, the 12.3-inch multimedia system with wireless smartphone integration and Google Play Store access, adaptive cruise control, front, rear and side parking sensors, a reversing camera, automatic emergency braking and an electric parking brake with auto-hold. LED adaptive headlights, manual air conditioning, hands-free access and start, and vehicle-to-load capability are also included as standard.
Extra adds metallic paint, additional airbags, automatic climate control, enhanced driver’s seat adjustment with lumbar support and armrest, wireless smartphone charging and HERE navigation. A mobile office configuration, 230V power sockets and additional load-area equipment make it even easier to turn the Trafic into a workplace on wheels.
First deliveries are scheduled for Q2 2027.
