Used LCV values buck seasonal trends with 5.3% rise in August

Average monthly used light commercial vehicle (LCV) values at BCA jumped by £424 (5.3%) in August to reach £8,358.

The bumper increase bucks the typical seasonal pressures dampening other areas of the used vehicle sector and highlights strong market resilience.

LCV buyer engagement also spiked significantly, with numbers climbing month-on-month to reach their highest level since April.

At the same time, performance against price guide expectations rose by 1.9 percentage points to 103.4%, the highest figure since March this year.

Year-on-year values were up by £466 (5.9%) and sold volumes improved by 4.2% compared to August 2025.  So far across 2026 to date, LCVs at BCA have sold for an average of £8,294, compared to £7,974 at the same point last year, an improvement of £320 or 4.0%.  Over 7,700 unique buyers have purchased LCVs from BCA in 2026.

Stuart Pearson, BCA chief operating officer UK, commented: “August brought a welcome dose of positivity to the LCV marketplace and BCA can report on one of the best months for demand and sale conversion since the springtime. Buyer activity markedly improved in August and it felt like the wider LCV market was much better balanced than it had been over the previous weeks.”

Pearson noted that wider market issues have not gone away, and buyers are still very cautious about any vehicle in poorer cosmetic or mechanical condition while oversupply of certain models is putting pressure on values.

But he noted there is plenty of competition and strong bidding on the best-presented stock, which shows an underlying confidence from professional buyers that retail interest is improving.

Pearson added: “We also experienced an uptick in interest for older stock, as the price guides made a number of value adjustments to a more realistic reflection of demand. As always, when vehicles are priced accurately to reflect market dynamics, then sold volumes rise and sale conversions improve, which is good for buyers and sellers alike.”

Demand remains strong in the early days of September and competition continues to intensify, according to BCA.

“It suggests that the used LCV market could strengthen further as we head into autumn,” Pearson stated.
