Waitrose expands two-hour delivery trial outside London

Waitrose & Partners is to expanding trials of its two-hour delivery service outside of London following its success in the capital.

Deliveries are made via cargo bikes or vans

Offered in selected postcodes in London since September 2018, the service will be available in both Bath and Hove from 8 and 15 July respectively while Waitrose is also adding 58 London postcodes in areas, including Battersea, High Street Kensington, Bayswater, Victoria and Kingston.

Customers in these areas can choose up to 25 items from more than 2,000 products – even including made-to-order sushi – at rapid.waitrose.com and opt to receive their shopping within two hours of placing the order.

The service is run in partnership with Citysprint spin-off On the Dot and has been expanded to cover 98 postcodes since its launch, giving it the potential to reach up to 1.2 million households, and average weekly orders have doubled.

Santosh Sahu, CEO at On the Dot, said: “The huge popularity and take-up of the service echoes what we’re seeing across the grocery market – rapid and convenient delivery has become a key pillar in a shopper’s experience of a brand. Shoppers now expect a range of delivery options at the checkout – retailers like Waitrose recognise this and are always looking for new ways to make it easier to shop with them.”
